Rhodes family friendly beaches

Tsampika Beach

This is arguably the best beach on the island. Soft sand gently shelves into turquoise water making it ideal for kids. The beach is lined with sunbeds, umbrellas and beach shacks serving cocktails, snacks, soft drinks and ice creams. We loved No Name cafe which is surrounded by banana plants, and has a lovely big swing. The umbrellas in front of the bar are huge and easily fit a family of four under one umbrella.

There are two aquaparks, one at each end of the beach. There is also a water sports centre offering wakeboarding, donuts, pedalos and parasailing.

Public toilets are located along the car parking area and take 50c to unlock the door.

Pefkos Beach

Backed by the resort town of Pefkos this beach is a short walk down the hill from the main street. The large expanse of sandy beach is lined with loungers and umbrellas (€12 for two loungers and an umbrella per day). The water is crystal clear and calm. It is gently shelving and predominantly sandy under foot so perfect for kids.

There are two beach cafes at the back of the beach perfect for lunch or sundowner cocktails. Lee Beach Bar serves food until 5.30pm and drinks until 11.30pm. At 5.30pm the adjacent restaurant, Kyma, opens and serves dinner until 11.30pm. At the other end of the beach is an all day restaurant Kritamo. If you use the sun loungers in front of Lee Beach Bar the €12 charge also includes free water, WiFi and bar service from the comfort of your lounger.

There is a large free carpark just above the beach and pay toilets for 50c.

Glystra Beach

This sandy beach is shallow shelving with a small rock island a swimable distance from the shore. This makes it ideal for snorkeling.

There is a small beach shack serving snacks. Umbrellas and sunbeds are available for €12 for two beds and umbrella. Parking is free at the back of the beach and pay for toilets are also available.

Lindos Beach

With a stunning backdrop of the Acropolis at Lindos this is a beautiful beach to spend time at. Sandy and shallow shelving it is perfect for kids.

There are plenty of restaurants along the beach to choose from, as well as the numerous options for food and shopping in town.

Lindos Beach and its free carpark is a down a fairly steep hill from the main town and Acropolis but its proximity to the town makes it a great all day option for combining culture and beach.

Little Pefki Beach

A small sandy cove to the south west of Pefkos with clear waters. A fun, safe spot for snorkelling as it’s predominantly rock and stone a few steps into the water.

The beach can be accessed from Plakia Beach where there are a few sun loungers with umbrellas on the beach and one beach cafe.

Prasonisi Beach

This beach is at the most southerly tip of the Island. At low tide it has a sand bar that makes it possible to walk to the outcrop of Prasonisi.

The beach is a popular spot for kite surfing and wind surfing so there is plenty of activity to either try or watch others.

At the back of the beach are various restaurants, toilets and showers.

St Paul’s Bay

This stunning bay just south of Lindos offers wonderful views of the Acropolis. It has beaches at its north and south ends. We visited the south end, which has a great sandy beach for those with deep wallets, €30 for two loungers and an umbrella. Unfortunately to avoid this cost means a fairly uncomfortable rocky area. Overall a great beach for a swim or snorkel with a view, but could be expensive to spend the whole day.

Elli Beach, Rhodes Town

Just north of Mandraki Harbour and a 10 minute walk from the Old Town, this pebbly beach has all of the amenities you could need, as well as a 10 metre diving platform into the sea for the more adventurous! We didn’t spend long here as only had a day in Rhodes Town but it would make a good base to combine culture and relaxation.
